The SOS House Project intention is to promote choice in more sustainable housing design, products and inclusions - through the construction of a 'display home' demonstrating many such examples. Energy and water savings, technology and smart design ideas are all part of the SOS project. The house will be open to the public for twelve months, and will also be used as a venue for housing-related forums and workshops. Home builders, home buyers, architects, trades, students, and community groups will be actively encouraged to visit the SOS house and attend various activities throughout the year. Many companies and organisations have contributed products, services, advice and involvement. We appreciate their willingness to be a part of this cooperative contribution to 'Sustaining Our Shoalhaven'. Key points about the Project:
The SOS House achieves most of its energy efficiency and sustainability criteria through: building orientation, thermo-performance of Timbercrete® bricks, solar power generation, solar hot water, a water recycling regime and other design related factors. This Project has already attracted significant interest through the construction phase. Local school students have visited the site for various projects, Shoalhaven building trades have received information and the public have been informed through local press & radio and through a display at Council offices. An activity program will continue during the Open Home period. |
